20 hours ECE

To uptake the 20 hours ECE you are required to sign a form which confirms that you agree to pay the optional charge. This optional charge is the cost involved in facilitating the total Montessori environment in our preschool of special character. The includes additional staff qualifications ie. a Diploma of Montessori Education over and above the NZ Dip.Tch or B.Tch ECE. Specialist equipment enables the children to learn in a sensorial environment with equipment designed and developed by Maria Montessori purchased from our provider in Holland.

An exceptional assessment of each child within the Montessori Philosophy curriculum ensures holistic learning is available and directed to every child as an individual. Exceptionally high teacher pupil ratios enable 1:1 support for the children as required.

A high involvement of activities within the community is enabled by the number of qualifies teachers working on a full time basis within the environment.
ERO REPORT

CONCLUSION

The centre provides good quality care and education particularly for the over two-year-old children. The education programme in the under two-year-old area could be improved in some aspects. The continued development of the programme planning and evaluation and child assessment practices should enable the staff to extend the quality of the curriculum further.

The licensee has appropriate management systems and practices. She has taken the initiative in working with an advisory support to enhance the quality of education delivery at the centre.

The next review is likely to be part of the regular schedule of reviews.

"Montessori learning is child-centred and focuses on the development of the child's sense through the use of specially designed child-sized equipment and practical life experiences. Much of this is designed to teach a specific skill and being self-correcting, enhances the ability of the child to develop independence and a love of the process rather than the product."
